Education and Outreach

Promoting music to the next generation

St Mildred's Organ Project has the education of the next generation of musicians as a core principle, and is committed to providing a top quality resource for teaching and performing in Croydon.

The two organs at St Mildred's - the small tracker action East organ and the new electro-pneumatic West organ - will provide a teaching resource that is unsurpassed.

Below are some details of our educational programmes

Junior Choir

The flourishing Junior Choir is a vital part of music at St Mildred's. Girls and boys from age six can join and will learn life skills.

All Junior Choir members work on the Royal School of Church Music's Voice for Life programme, learning vocal technique, as well as music theory (crucially, reading music) and how this translates into the church setting.

Organ Scholarship

St Mildred's offers an annual Organ Scholarship for a young, aspiring organist. The Scholarship offers experience and training in church musicianship, including accompanying and directing our 35-strong choir, leading our congregation in hymns and other singing and performing recitals.

The organ scholar will also be expected to play and assist at our annual cathedral residency.

Recital Series

St Mildred's has a thriving monthly recital series. The series aims to give young musicians a platform to gain valuable performing experience and showcase their skills. We are very lucky to be able to offer a Bechstein grand piano and a superb acoustic!
